Smart Education China: a survey on the expectations towards school and university graduates in China

An increasing number of western companies is looking for qualified graduates in China in order to meet the growing demand for skilled employees. Recent studies show that while there is a large amount of academics, at the same time, there is a considerable shortness of qualified personnel. Often, school and university graduates don’t fulfill the expectations of western companies.

The initiative “Smart Education China” is aiming at the optimization of the Chinese education system and is carried out by ECNU-S&P Research Center for ICT-Enabled Systemic Changes and Innovations, which is co-managed by Prof. Dr. Zhiting Zhu from ECNU (East China Normal University), the second-largest university for education in China with headquarters in Shanghai, and Guest Professor Robert A. Sedlák (CEO and Chairman of SEDLÁK & PARTNER International Consulting Group). Additionally, it is supported by its cooperation partner DCW (German-Chinese Business Association).

The first step of the initiative is the identification of expectations of western companies towards school and university graduates in China. The results will be presented to the Ministry of Education in Beijing in spring 2016, which would be able to influence the future qualification of school and university graduates in China.
